General Electric 30" Ranges Oven Glass Door Exploding/Shattering Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating General Electric (GE) 30-inch gas and electric ranges purchased within the past five years for issues relating to the oven glass door shattering or exploding unexpectedly. This issue may pose significant safety risks to consumers, including potential laceration, burn, and property damage hazards, and may render the range unsafe or unusable.GE

General Electric 30" Ranges Owners Report Oven Glass Door Shattering

GE 30-inch range owners report that the oven glass door can crack, break, or explode unexpectedly, including while the oven is in use and, in some instances, while the oven is turned off. Consumers have described the glass suddenly breaking without warning, with some reports indicating that the glass shattered during ordinary use of the range. The sudden failure of the oven glass may cause glass fragments to scatter into the surrounding area, creating a potential risk of serious injury, particularly to young children who may be at or near the height of the oven door.

General Electric Fails to Remedy

Consumers who have reported GE oven glass doors cracking, breaking, or shattering have contacted GE or retailers seeking assistance with the issue. In response, some consumers have reported being denied warranty coverage or replacement at no cost.  In other instances, consumers report they may be directed to GE’s customer service or authorized service providers for inspection, repair, or replacement of the affected glass. However, replacing the shattered glass may not address the underlying issue if the same glass door or component is susceptible to breaking again under normal use. Consumers may also be left with repair costs, periods during which they cannot safely use their ovens, and other losses resulting from the unexpected failure of the oven glass.
