Ram 1500 Backup Camera Defect

This issue has been reported in vehicles equipped with the Uconnect infotainment system and may involve software or other electrical components associated with the rearview camera.

Many owners report experiencing intermittent backup camera failures, including blue or blank screens and repeated loss of the camera image while the vehicle is in reverse. Some owners report that the camera temporarily returns after restarting the vehicle, but the problem may recur repeatedly, including in vehicles where the infotainment or radio module has already been replaced. Other reports describe the failure occurring alongside freezing or other electrical and infotainment problems, with some owners stating that the issue has been difficult for dealers to reproduce because it may resolve before the vehicle can be inspected.

Ram Fails to Remedy

Despite repeated visits to dealerships, some Ram 1500 owners have continued to experience backup camera failures after attempted repairs, including replacement of infotainment and radio components. Ram has also issued software updates intended to address Uconnect-related issues and, more recently, a recall providing a software update for the rearview camera defect. However, reports of recurring failures following repair attempts indicate that these measures have not provided a permanent solution for all affected vehicles.
