Volvo and Polestar 2 Infotainment and Backup Camera Defects

2021–2025 Volvo and Polestar 2 Infotainment & Backup Camera Defects

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating 2021–2025 Volvo models (including XC40, XC60, XC90, S60, S90, V60, and V90) and Polestar 2 electric vehicles for persistent infotainment system crashes and rearview camera failures. These vehicles, equipped with Volvo’s Android-based Google Built-In operating system, suffer from recurring software and hardware integration defects that cause critical safety displays and cabin controls to become entirely unresponsive.

Owners Report Black Screens, Backup Camera Failures, and Mid-Drive Reboots

Owners of affected Volvo and Polestar vehicles report widespread failures where the center infotainment display freezes, reboots at random, or goes completely black while driving. When placing the vehicle in reverse, the rearview or 360-degree camera feed frequently lags, displays a "Camera Temporarily Unavailable" error, or fails to appear altogether—creating severe blind spots and back-over safety hazards. Furthermore, system crashes abruptly disable essential in-cabin functions, including climate controls, GPS navigation, safety chimes, and driver assistance alerts.

Recalls and Software Updates Fail to Permanently Resolve the Defect

Although Volvo and Polestar have issued multiple recalls covering over 400,000 vehicles to address backup camera failures, numerous drivers report that dealership software patches and Over-the-Air (OTA) updates have failed to fix the underlying defect. In many cases, updates have introduced new glitches, and owners continue to experience recurring screen freezes and camera blackouts even after multiple service visits. We are investigating whether these issues stem from deeper hardware limitations and unaddressed defects in the infotainment head unit.
