Chevrolet & GMC 3.0L Duramax Thrust Bearing & Engine Failure Defect Investigation

Current Investigations

Chevrolet & GMC 3.0L Duramax Engine Failure Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating the 2025-2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500, and GMC Yukon equipped with the 3.0L Duramax (LZ0) turbo-diesel engine for issues relating to crankshaft thrust bearing failure and catastrophic engine failure. This issue affects the engine’s crankshaft thrust bearings, which can wear prematurely and allow excessive crankshaft end play, potentially leading to a complete engine replacement.

3.0L Duramax Owners Report Engine Noise, Warning Lights, and Sudden Engine Failure

Owners of 3.0L Duramax-equipped trucks and SUVs report hearing ticking, knocking, or clunking noises from the area behind the bellhousing, often accompanied by low oil pressure warnings, check engine lights, and reduced acceleration alerts. Many owners report these failures occurring on nearly new vehicles, in some cases with only 1,000 to 5,500 miles on the odometer. Some owners report their engines failing suddenly while driving or towing, leaving them stranded and requiring a complete engine replacement.

General Motors Fails To Remedy

Despite issuing Technical Service Bulletin to its dealers, General Motors (GM) has not issued a recall to inspect all affected vehicles, and owners whose engines are not yet showing symptoms have reportedly been charged diagnostic fees to have their crankshafts checked. When a failure is confirmed, GM’s fix is to replace the entire engine, but owners report waiting weeks or even months for replacement engines due to backorders, while continuing to make monthly payments on trucks they cannot drive. Some owners who received buybacks or replacement vehicles have experienced the same engine failure again, leaving them with no lasting solution.
