Kobalt Battery Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating certain Kobalt 24V and 48V yard power tools equipped with USB-C lithium-ion batteries for issues relating to a potential battery defect. The affected products are included in a recall issued by Greenworks North America, LLC (Greenworks Tools), which serves as the importer of the recalled Kobalt products.

Kobalt owners have reported batteries overheating, producing smoke or sparks, and catching fire during charging. Some reports describe batteries becoming unusually hot before producing smoke or igniting, while others involve batteries that began sparking during use or charging. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety and reliability of the affected batteries.

Greenworks, as the Recall-Responsible Entity, Fails To Remedy

Although Greenworks is replacing the recalled batteries with batteries that do not have the USB-C charging port, the recall does not provide consumers with refunds or compensation for losses resulting from the defective batteries. Consumers who purchased the affected products are limited to receiving a replacement battery, leaving them with products that required corrective action despite being sold as new and without compensation for losses caused by the safety hazard.
