2022-2023 Volkswagen Tiguan Excessive Oil Consumption Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating 2022–2023 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles for issues relating to abnormal and excessive engine oil consumption. This defect affects vehicles equipped with the 2.0-liter TSI EA888 engine, causing them to burn through motor oil at alarming rates between scheduled maintenance intervals and posing severe risks of premature engine failure, stalling, and internal damage.

Tiguan Owners Report Frequent Low Oil Warnings and Burning Oil

Owners of 2022–2023 Volkswagen Tiguans report having to add multiple quarts of oil every few thousand miles to prevent engine starvation. Drivers frequently encounter low-oil indicator lights, dry dipsticks shortly after service, blue-tinted exhaust smoke upon startup, and burning oil odors. In severe cases, the lack of sufficient lubrication has led to unexpected engine stalls at highway speeds, carbon buildup on internal components, and complete engine breakdown.

Volkswagen Fails To Provide a Lasting Remedy

Despite widespread consumer complaints, NHTSA reports, and internal Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), Volkswagen dealerships routinely dismiss owner concerns by claiming that consuming up to a quart of oil every 600–1,200 miles is "normal operation." Many owners report undergoing multi-phase "oil consumption tests" only to be turned away without an effective repair or forced to pay out-of-pocket for costly diagnostics, valve stem seals, cylinder head replacements, or routine top-offs. We currently have no knowledge of any comprehensive safety recall issued by Volkswagen to permanently resolve this engine defect.
