Genesis Owners Report Power Seat Overheating and Fire Risks

Owners of affected vehicles may experience power seat control switches that become damaged or dislodged, causing the seat motors to continue operating even after the vehicle is unoccupied. The motors may overheat and potentially start a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven. Hyundai has identified burning smells near the front seats and power seat switches that stop working as potential warning signs.

Hyundai’s Attempt to Remedy

Hyundai Motor America has announced a safety recall covering 94,622 vehicles due to the risk of front power seat motor overheating and fire. However, the company is still developing a permanent repair and has advised affected owners to park their vehicles outdoors, away from buildings and other vehicles, until the repair is completed.
