General Motors eBoost Braking Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating General Motors vehicles equipped with eBoost braking systems for reports of sudden loss of braking assistance and increased difficulty stopping. The issue may cause the brake pedal to become hard to press and significantly reduce braking performance, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

General Motors Owners Report Sudden Loss of Braking Assistance

Owners of General Motors vehicles equipped with eBoost braking systems have reported experiencing sudden problems with braking performance. According to complaints submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some drivers have reported a hard brake pedal, reduced braking assistance, and difficulty bringing their vehicles to a complete stop. In some instances, drivers reported receiving brake system warnings before experiencing a significant change in braking performance, raising concerns about the vehicles’ ability to stop safely.

General Motors Fails to Remedy

Despite General Motors’ efforts to address reported eBoost brake failures, complaints regarding sudden loss of braking assistance have continued. GM identified an internal spindle fracture within the Electronic Brake Control Module as a cause of certain failures and reported implementing a material change to the affected component in May 2023. However, NHTSA continued receiving reports of vehicles experiencing a hard brake pedal and loss of brake assistance while driving, including reports involving vehicles produced after the material change.
