Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating certain 2019–2024 Land Rover and Range Rover Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEVs)—including Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Defender, Velar, Evoque, and Discovery models—for severe electrical defects involving the high-to-low voltage DC/DC converter. An internal defect in the converter's boost control microchip prevents the 48-volt hybrid battery from charging the conventional 12-volt battery system, triggering rapid electrical depletion, sudden loss of drive power, and total blackout of exterior lighting while driving.

Owners describe harrowing, sudden failures where their luxury SUVs display an abrupt dashboard warning ("Stop Safely, Electrical Fault Detected") leaving drivers with mere seconds to navigate out of traffic before the vehicle initiates an automated shutdown. As the 12-volt battery completely drains, the vehicle automatically forces the transmission into Neutral, cuts engine motive power, disables power steering assist and lane-keep safety systems, and shuts down all exterior headlights and hazard lamps. This rapid cascading failure leaves unsuspecting drivers stranded in dark, active traffic lanes, creating catastrophic collision hazards.

Over 170,000 Vehicles Recalled with No Available Remedy or Timeline

Following thousands of consumer complaints and regulatory pressure, Jaguar Land Rover North America (JLR) issued a safety recall covering more than 170,000 vehicles (NHTSA Recall No. 26V-248). However, the recall admits that an effective remedy is "currently under development" and unavailable, effectively leaving motorists to operate dangerously defective, six-figure luxury vehicles without a permanent fix. In many cases, dealerships turn owners away or leave vehicles stranded on service lots for months waiting for backordered parts. We are investigating whether JLR manufactured, marketed, and sold these mild-hybrid vehicles knowing of this single-point-of-failure defect while concealing the safety risks from consumers.
