Bodum USA French Press Coffee Maker Glass Carafe Burn Hazard

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating Bodum USA, Inc. regarding a massive recall of approximately 5.9 million Bodum 8-cup and 12-cup French press coffee makers (covering popular models including Bistro, Brazil,Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya) for critical safety defects. The glass carafes are prone to unexpected cracking and structural breakage during everyday use, exposing consumers to severe scalding, thermal burns,and laceration hazards.

Millions of Consumers Face Scalding Risks From Breaking Glass Carafes

Sold nationwide at major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Amazon and specialty home goods stores for decades (from 1974 through October 2026), these iconic glass-carafe coffee makers are a staple in millions of kitchens. However,reports submitted to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC Recall No. 27-055) reveal at least 70 incidents of glass carafes unexpectedly shattering or breaking during use—resulting in 48 documented burn injuries to consumers. According to federal safety notices, micro-cracks can form easily (often exacerbated by stirring coffee with metal spoons or utensils), causing the glass container to fracture violently when exposed to boiling water or routine pressure, spraying hot coffee and scalding liquid onto users.

Bodum Refuses Monetary Refunds, Offering Only Plastic Stirring Spoons and Warning Labels

In response to the federal safety action, Bodum USA has declined to issue cash refunds or replace the millions of affected glass carafes. Instead, the company's approved remedy consists merely of mailing consumers a free plastic stirring spoon and an additional warning label instructing users not to use metal utensils and to discard cracked carafes. We are investigating whether Bodum manufactured and distributed these glass containers with inadequate structural resilience or failure warnings, leaving injured consumers uncompensated for severe burn injuries and property damage.
