Hyundai Palisade Tow Hitch Harness Fire Risk Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating 2020–2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles for safety defects relating to genuine Hyundai accessory tow hitch wiring harnesses. A design and manufacturing defect allows moisture and foreign contaminants to penetrate the tow hitch harness module, causing electrical short circuits that present serious fire hazards while parked or driving.

Owners Face Park-Outside Warnings and Electrical Failures

Federal safety regulators and Hyundai have issued safety alerts warning owners to park their Palisades outside and away from structures until repairs are completed. Moisture intrusion into the 4-pin or 7-pin tow hitch harness printed circuit board (PCB) can trigger uncontrolled electrical arcing, burning odors, melting plastic, and engine-off vehicle fires. Additionally, owners report recurring trailer lighting malfunctions, blown fuses, and battery drainage linked directly to shorted harness assemblies.

Ineffective Interim Remedies and Backordered Replacement Fuses

Despite multiple safety recalls covering over 245,000 vehicles, many owners have received only temporary interim remedies, such as removing the harness fuse to deactivate towing functionality entirely. Owners report extensive dealer backorders for permanent waterproofed replacement harnesses, leaving them unable to utilize their factory-installed or port-installed towing packages for extended periods. We are investigating whether Hyundai has failed to provide a timely, permanent fix that restores full towing utility.
