Telluride Owners Report Seat Malfunctions, Burning Smells, Smoke, and Fires

Kia Telluride owners have reported experiencing front power seat malfunctions, including seat controls becoming stuck or seats continuing to move after the controls are released. Other owners have reported burning or melting smells and smoke coming from underneath the seats, with some incidents involving melted seat components and localized fires.

Kia Fails To Remedy

Kia previously attempted to address the front power seat motor issue through a 2024 recall that called for the installation of brackets and replacement of the seat slide knobs. However, Kia later replaced that recall with a new 2026 recall after determining that the seat motor could still overheat due to a stuck seat slide knob or an improper repair performed under the earlier recall. The new recall requires dealers to install an electronic fuse assembly, and Kia has stated that vehicles previously repaired under the 2024 recall must undergo the new remedy as well. Some owners have also reported continued problems with the seat controls after having the earlier recall repair completed.
