Gobi Heat Rechargeable Hand Warmers Fire & Burn Hazard Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating Dragon Gear Inc., dba Gobi Heat, regarding approximately 5,500 rechargeable hand warmers (Model No. UT3053) for critical safety defects involving lithium-ion battery overheating and fire hazards. An internal battery cell and electrical component defect causes the units to overheat, smolder, and ignite during charging or active use, creating severe burn and property fire hazards for consumers.

Consumers Face Thermal Runaway, Ignition Hazards, and Severe Burn Risks

Marketed for outdoor recreation, winter sports, and cold-weather commuting, Gobi Heat-branded rechargeable hand warmers are designed to be held directly in hands or kept inside jacket pockets close to the body. However, investigations reveal that the built-in lithium-ion batteries and internal circuitry are prone to thermal failure and ignition. When these components overheat, users face catastrophic risks of serious contact burns, clothing ignition, pocket fires, and property damage.

Federal CPSC Recall Urges Immediate Stop-Use While Consumers Bear Disposal Burdens

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a nationwide safety recall (CPSC Recall No. 27-009) urging consumers to stop using the hand warmers immediately. Under the recall process, consumers are instructed to obtain an online claim number, deface their units in permanent marker, photograph the markings, and independently navigate complex municipal hazardous waste disposal rules for recalled lithium-ion batteries. We are investigating whether Gobi Heat marketed and sold these electronic warming devices with inadequate thermal protection or defective battery cells, leaving consumers with dangerous products and out-of-pocket replacement expenses.
