Forest River Salem & Wildwood RV Exterior Griddle Fire Hazard Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating 2027 Forest River Salem and Wildwood travel trailers for critical safety defects relating to outdoor kitchen griddles and liquid propane (LP) gas lines. Due to an engineering and design flaw, the exterior slide-out griddle can be stowed back into the RV body compartment while still connected to an active LP gas supply line, creating an imminent danger of gas accumulation, severe structural fires, and explosion hazards.

Travel Trailer Owners Face Severe Fire Risks from Stowed Propane Griddles

Recreational vehicle owners purchase Forest River Salem and Wildwood campers expecting safe, reliable outdoor amenities for family travel. However, the exterior kitchen compartment lacks an automatic gas shut-off mechanism or physical lockout to prevent the cooktop from being pushed into its enclosed storage bay while the burner is on or the LP gas line remains engaged. Storing a hot griddle or leaving pressurized propane lines coupled within an unvented compartment can cause rapid heat buildup, combustible wall and ceiling ignition, or catastrophic gas leaks directly adjacent to sleeping and living quarters.

NHTSA Safety Recall Acknowledges Fire Risk but Remedy Remains Unavailable

Forest River, Inc. submitted a safety recall report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA Campaign No. 26V-586 / Manufacturer Recall No. 06-2095) acknowledging that stowing the griddle while connected to active gas lines increases the risk of fire. However, Forest River has acknowledged that an official remedy is "currently under development," leaving RV owners without an immediate, approved fix. We are investigating whether Forest River manufactured and sold these travel trailers with knowledge of unsafe propane appliance configurations and whether owners face diminished value, loss of camper use, or property damage.
