Amana Through-the-Wall Air Conditioner Fire Defect Investigation

Amana TTW Air Conditioner Fire Defect    

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating certain Amana Through-the-Wall (TTW) air conditioners and heat pumps for issues relating to a potential fire hazard. This issue affects several units with a snubber circuit that can emit flames if it shorts.

Amana TTW Owners Report Control Board Shorting

Owners of affected Amana Through-the-Wall air conditioners and heat pumps may experience problems associated with a component on the unit's control board shorting. Daikin has received two reports of a control board component shorting in the affected units, which may cause the snubber circuit to emit flames and create a fire hazard. No injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents.

Amana Fails To Remedy

Rather than providing a repair to address the defective snubber circuit, Amana has instructed owners to immediately stop using the affected units and request a full refund. To receive the refund, owners must cut the unit’s power cord and submit photographs showing the unit’s serial number and the cut cord. The recall does not provide a repair for the affected units, leaving owners without use of their air conditioner or heat pump while they pursue a refund and replacement.
