Audi E-tron High-Voltage Battery & Fire Hazard Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating certain 2022-2024 e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT models, certain 2020-2022 e-tron Sportback Quattro, certain 2019-2022 e-tron Quattro vehicles & certain 2022-2023 RS e-tron GTs; for critical safety defects involving the high-voltage lithium-ion traction battery pack. Manufacturing defects within the battery cell modules can lead to internal short circuits and thermal overload, creating serious fire hazards while the vehicle is charging, parked, or in operation.

Owners Face Severe Charging Limits, Range Depletion, and Outdoor Parking Directives

Federal safety regulators and Audi/Volkswagen have issued safety recalls cautioning owners against charging their vehicles to full capacity and advising them to park outdoors and away from structures. Owners have been instructed to restrict charging to an 80% maximum state-of-charge (SoC). This restriction substantially reduces the vehicle’s usable driving range, undercuts the primary benefit of owning an electric luxury SUV, and prevents owners from safely charging in home garages or residential parking spaces.

Interim Software Fixes and Substantial Battery Replacement Delays

Rather than delivering an immediate, comprehensive hardware replacement, Audi’s interim remedy has centered around onboard diagnostic software updates meant to detect anomalous cell behavior. However, owners report that software patches do not eliminate the underlying hardware flaw and instead trigger unexpected battery warning faults, vehicle shutdowns, or extended delays as dealerships await backordered high-voltage battery replacement modules. Owners are left paying for luxury vehicles that suffer severe diminished value and restricted utility.
