Ford 7.3L Godzilla Engine Failure Defect

Scott Hirsch Law Group PLLC is currently investigating the 2020-2025 Ford Super Duty trucks, E-Series vans, and F-53 motorhome chassis equipped with the 7.3L “Godzilla” V8 engine for issues relating to camshaft and lifter failure. This issue affects the engine’s valvetrain, where insufficient lubrication can cause severe wear on the lifters and camshaft.

7.3L Godzilla Owners Report Engine Misfires, Loss of Power, and Catastrophic Engine Failure

Owners report experiencing engine misfires, ticking noises, check engine lights, and sudden loss of power, sometimes while driving at highway speeds and with little or no warning. Many owners report these failures at relatively low mileage, in some cases before 30,000 miles, with damage severe enough to require a complete engine rebuild or replacement. Owners of trucks, work vans, and motorhomes alike report being left stranded after their engines failed.

Ford Fails To Remedy

Although Ford has acknowledged camshaft and lifter wear in a technical service bulletin, it has not issued a recall to repair the affected engines, and its fix has largely been a software update rather than a mechanical repair. Some owners report that Ford has covered engine replacements under warranty, while others have been denied coverage. As a result, many owners have faced substantial out-of-pocket expenses to repair or replace their failed engines.
